Teachers Get Taste of Being Students Again

A group of elementary, middle and high school teachers spent Thursday morning seeing what it is like to be students again.

They were out at the High Magnetic Field Lab in Tallahassee working in groups and trying to solve tasks relating to electricity.

One of the exercises included taking copper wire, batteries and magnets to make a motor. As many of the instructors either passed or failed the tasks, they say it was a humbling experience.

"When a student raises his or her hand or they say this is frustrating, this exercise helps me to tell that child that things are okay and you don't have to be afraid. We are going to work on this until we both get it correct," say instructor Ann Marie Bissoo.

The overall goal of the workshop is to improve K-12 science and mathematics education.
