Boat Ramp Controversy

A rejected bid has put the Keaton Beach Boat Ramp in the middle of a controversy in Taylor County.

A contractor who claims this bid was not considered by the county commission is now taking legal action.

Contractor Daly Young was rejected in a 4 to 1 vote by the Taylor County Commission. Young's attorney spoke to our station by phone. He said, "the position of my client, Young, is that his was the only bid in compliance in request for the proposal." Only one other bid was submitted for the $50,000 annual contract and it came in about 15 minutes after a 4 p.m. deadline on April 22.

The protest now sits on County Manager, Ed Harvey's desk. He says the county commission will have to meet to resolve the issue.

Young's attorney said it would be a dangerous precedent to allow bids to be filed late.
