Lawmakers Compromise, Session Ends

After months of deliberation, Georgia's session is finally closed. Lawmakers have come up with a plan for the state's flag.

A symbol of Peach pride for many, for others, like Linda Hurst, a symbol of what the south used to be. She said, "It has history and value and we can't just change the flag on a whim."

With session now adjourn, Georgia lawmakers have decided to make a change to the historic symbol. A temporary design will fly over the capitol, one that resembles a confederate national flag cut without the well-knows cross of stars.

Some Senate leaders say any new flag could cost the state millions of dollars. The temporary flag will stay up until the end of 2004, then it will be voted on again.
