Early voting starts on Monday and one amendment about marriage is causing lots of division in Florida.

WCTV talked with Tallahassee residents about their opinions.

Rabbi Jack Romberg of Temple Israel is against the proposed Florida Marriage Protection Amendment.

He says that Amendment 2 could prevent same sex couples, senior citizens living together for convenience, and couples who are not married from certain rights such as hospital visitation or health insurance.

"I think that at its core it is an attempt by people of a certain religious perspective to use religion to actually demonize those that are different from themselves and do we want to vote a demonetization of a particular group of people into our constitution?" says Rabbi Jack Romberg of Temple Israel.

Amendment 2 says that no other type of union other than marriage between one man and one woman will be recognized as valid by the government.

Some local residents have serious concerns with this proposal.

"I plan on voting no on 2 I think it's a different set of laws for some American citizens and I think we've decided that's not right." says Adam LaMee, a Lincoln High School Physics Teacher.

On the other hand others believe the amendment would be a great protection for traditional marriages.

"It just keeps our society saying what marriage is, it makes that foundation for our society ...one man and one woman." says Curtis Clark, Thomasville Rd. Baptist Church Senior Pastor.

Amendments need 60 percent voter approval to become part of Florida's constitution.

I do very much agree that marriage should be only between Man and woman, not man and man or woman and woman. I am a man myself, I can love other men, we all should, not not the extent of lusting so much as to marry them, and lust is what that is, between man and man or woman and woman, to marry between man and man or woman and woman is just plain selfish and stupid, I do have to wonder, what is the divorce rate of man and man or woman and woman, I bet twice as high as the man and woman style

I have one question for those here spouting their religious beliefs...Have you heard THIS before: He who casts the first stone?? Who are YOU to judge?? That's one and ONLY ONE's job...and he's far above all of us. How dare you use this amendment to criticize what you simply can't or won't try to understand. You're hurting MANY more than the GLBT community...MANY more. VOTE NO!!!!! READ the facts people!!!

How many people actually realize that this Amendment has more to do with than just gay marriages??!! This Amendment will affect those who are straight as well. I think some people need to go back to school and learn "reading comprehension."
