Members of the local Coast Guard Auxiliary say they want to make boating safety a priority for Florida boaters.
Saturday they led a class on boating techniques and safety in Tallahassee. Both adults and children participated in the eight hour course.
"I think everybody that operates a boat today should take a safety course, I really do. It's a wonderful course. One day out of your life to sit through and learn all the rules and regulations and safety tips. There's too many deaths in boats occurring and too many unsafe boaters out there," said Dick Hunt, a course participant from Tallahassee.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary says they also offer a navigation course for Florida boaters.
