Economic Development Work Plan

Olean McCaskill has made a living out of fueling the needs of others.

She's the catalyst behind Olean’s Restaurant on the south side of Tallahassee.

"Business is good because of children pretty steady,” comments McCaskill.

During her five years on the corner of Adams and Palmer Streets, Olean has seen other business build up and then fall down.

Tallahassee Mayor John Marks wants to change this track record, and bring more diversity to the local economy, in turn bringing more jobs.

"We can no longer rely on state government for our economic engine. We've got to diversify and stop our dependence on state government,” explains Mayor Marks.

Marks says the only way to move this plan forward is to bring all of Tallahassee’s resources on board, especially the area's two university's and community college. City leaders hope this initiative to boost the economy will help others cook up the same results as Olean.
