Florida officials held a news conference about changes to the state's Safe Haven law this morning. Florida’s Safe Haven Law has been in place since 2000.

The law allows the mother or father of an unharmed newborn to leave the baby at a Safe Haven without fear of prosecution. Hospitals and EMS facilities are considered Safe Havens.

The law was amended this year to increase the window of time in which parents may turn over a newborn from three days to seven days from the child’s birth.

The Safe Haven law has saved at least 117 newborns in Florida, including two in Leon County.

Cheryl and White I agree with what you both say, my point was I think it is sad that we have to to a place where we even have to have a law like this :(

That would rip my heart out dropping a baby off with some strangers. I cant imagine the mindset. I'm glad they have these places for the sake of the babies. Cheryl I like your thoughts on medicaid and the extended drop off. Hopefully we can get some real representatives in local and national Gov to make these common sense changes. People like you with true compassion and an understanding of the workings of these programs. We have a responsibility as adults and parents to educate our next generation about these things before they get pregnant, before they have sex, it wont stop the natural urges but it might temper them with facts so they make better choices. MTV and lazy parents have helped sexualize this generation at an early age, it's a catch 22. We tell them not to but shove it in their faces everyday.100 years ago it was normal for parenst to marry off their 13 and 14 year old girl. Some societies still do. Whats natural and whats not?
