A Tallahassee woman is behind bars, accused of public assistance fraud. 35-year old Lavetra Cooper surrendered following a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation.
It found Cooper had filed numerous false claims of eligibility over the past several years with the Tallahassee Housing Authority and the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Agents say as a result of those claims, Cooper was paid more than
26-thousand dollars, to which she was not entitled.
They say when the claims were filed, Cooper was employed, receiving child support, and claiming a child that was actually living elsewhere.
She was booked into the Leon County jail.
