Tallahassee implemented a rooming house ordinance six years ago.
Rooming houses are single family homes that house four or more unrelated adults. Rooming houses are not permitted in many low-density neighborhoods unless they conform with certain requirements and register with the city.
"I think it's definitely uncalled for, especially in this environment with Tallahassee Community College, FAMU and Florida State right here, it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Maybe in a different environment, a different town without a big college population," said recent college graduate Peter Metler.
Tallahassee police officers say a violation of the rooming house ordinance is an administrative violation rather than a criminal violation.
