Tampa, FL
The red, white & blue single engine sport plane clipped a 50-foot sailboat mast, cart wheeled along the airport property in front of other airplanes waiting to take off.
When the plane finally came to rest in a grassy area, just 50-feet short of the runway, the pilot was able to crawl out and away from the wreckage.
Published reports indicate witnesses ran to the plane, lifted a wing and helped the passenger from the mangled wreckage.
Both unidentified survivors were treated at the scene, and taken to Tampa General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries
Records by WTVT-TV shows the fixed wing single-engine plane was registered to Tampa Aircraft Holdings Inc.
Fortunately the two people on board the sailboat were not hurt, but had the plane hit the seawall both people onboard the aircraft would have most likely been killed.
