School officials say they hope to have nearly 11,000 students this fall semester. That would be the biggest number in the school's 100-year history.
VSU students value the importance of honoring history.
"It's important for students to know that the establishment has been around for a long time, you know what I'm saying? Having it been around a long time establishes credit. It's not a here today, gone tomorrow type of thing," said VSU student Michael Bellamy.
This weekend the school celebrates its triple digit birthday with festivities including the opening of a new museum, a fireworks show, a flyover from Moody Air Force Base and a 5-k run and walk.
