Churches Vote in Tallahassee

In one hour, hundreds of church members in Tallahassee will head to the polls. The Tallahassee Equality Ministry, also known as TEAM, has invited more than 20 church congregations to cast concerns regarding the Capital City.

For Ray of Hope United Methodist, member Claudine Boussiceaut, Southside development is a top concern. Ray of Hope, along with a diverse group of other Tallahassee churches such as Temple Israel and Good Shepard Catholic Church, are coming together as a TEAM, or Tallahassee Equality Action Ministry.

At least 16 congregations have come up with a list of concerns ranging from affordable health care and housing, to access to jobs.

Good Shepard deacon, Marcus Hepburn, says the churches are being asked to vote to narrow the list down to the top three concerns. Once the list is narrowed, committees will be formed to research each concern.

TEAM plans to layout their plan of action in September. Monday’s vote will take place at new Mt. Zion AME church on Old Bainbridge Road at 6 p.m.
