Scientists at Florida State University are getting national recognition for their research on HIV. The team's findings may potentially lead to a vaccine against the virus that causes AIDS.
Nationwide, June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. Health care professionals say the fastest growing group contracting the deadly disease is African American women.
Just down the street, FSU researcher Kenneth Roux has been studying HIV and AIDS for six years. He and a worldwide team of scientists have made a breakthrough with a new type of antibody.
The antibody works to neutralize the virus, blocking it so it can't attack its target. Roux is hopeful this will lead to the development of a vaccine. Its actually being used in phase one clinical trials to knock out the virus in aids patients.
This project was just funded for another three years.
