An autopsy was performed this morning, and it took all day to notify the woman's next of kin, but the family of 52-year-old Marilyn Harris has finally received the grim news.

As for the folks in town, they say they're disgusted that someone could treat another human being like garbage and toss her body into the woods to rot.

Many people in Madison County are now wondering how a body could randomly turn up in such a quiet place.

Two hunters found the woman's body in the woods Thursday around noon off highway 90 just outside of Greenville.

Other hunters in the area say they can't imagine stumbling upon something so graphic.

"It'd be a shocking experience to really find any human being deceased in the woods," said Wally Davis, a Madison resident and hunter.

"To think that folks would do that to a human being, let alone dump them in the woods. It does show that there's no thought about the decency and respect for the person, let alone murdering them," added Rob Goley, also a citizen of Madison and avid hunter.

The cause of death has not yet been released.

Marylin Harris was from Leon County.

Authorities say it appears to be a homicide.

Sheriff Ben Stewart tells us the hunters found the body around noon Thursday. He says they still have not identified the woman and they're not sure how long her body had been there.

She was discovered about two miles south of Highway 90 on Pettis Springs Circle, just west of Greenville, Florida.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is assisting in the investigation, as well as the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Stewart says an autopsy on the woman is scheduled for Friday morning.
