That is actually the proper and respectful way to dispose of Old Glory. American Legion leaders say more people need to honor the flag, even in its destruction.
"It's a shame people don't fall out more for these kind of programs, and as far as burning the flag, it is a far better way to dispose of a worn out flag than putting it in the trash," said Charles Pollard, of the American Legion Post 13.
