Kicking off the celebration people paid tribute to America and the stars and stripes.
Then, nearly 300 worn our flags were burned.
That is actually the proper and respectful way to dispose of Old Glory. American Legion leaders say more people need to honor the flag, even in its destruction.
"It's a shame people don't fall out more for these kind of programs, and as far as burning the flag, it is a far better way to dispose of a worn out flag than putting it in the trash," said Charles Pollard, of the American Legion Post 13.
