LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Miss Indiana Katie Stam has been crowned Miss
America 2009 in Las Vegas.

The 22-year-old University of Indianapolis student battled a throat infection and laryngitis throughout the week but still drew loud applause for her rendition of "Via Dolorosa'' during the talent competition.

She also strutted onstage in a black bikini and an off-the-shoulder, white lace gown.

Stam, a communications major, plans to work in television news. She began competing in pageants at age 15.

The first runner-up was Miss Georgia Chasity Hardman.

White Miss America, Black Miss America, who cares? Just go look at the nursing home to see how much that beauty is going to matter in a few years. Everybody is going to end up looking the same...wrinkled, grey hair, the works. We all need to put our attention on something more important than who is winning those contests anyway. Let's get a life.

I don't see any reason to have a seperate beauty contest either. Especially now, since black girls seem to win the Miss America pageant every year. I guess this reflects the political correctness that everyone seems to want in this country. It just seems superficial and phoney if you ask me.
