Record low temperatures this morning may have led some residents to stay in bed.
14 degrees was the record-breaker reached this morning at the Tallahassee Regional Airport. This is the coldest temperature the area has seen in 20 years! Local nurseries took precautions of their own by covering plants. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee says there is more to the cold temperature than just a cold and dry air mass.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Kelly Godsey explains, "The winds became very light--that's a very effective means to get a lot of heat radiating back out through the night, and as a result the temperature dropped quite quickly after midnight and ended up at 14 by 7am."
Meteorologists say you will want to keep those plants covered tonight, and bring those pets inside as temps may dip to record lows Friday morning too.
