Victims of identity theft can now kick-start the often complicated process of tracking down the thief.
The Tallahassee Police Department has designed an online form that can help investigators subpoena records and pinpoint possible scenarios which may have given thieves a green light.
"So there's different questions in there that might nail down. It's like, 'Oh, I forgot to tell you that,' and that will give us a clue that maybe that's where the identity was stolen and that's where we can help look for it," said SGT Bill Bierbaum with TPD's Financial Crimes Unit.
Tallahassee police say if victims can fill out the form before coming to TPD, it will get their investigations going more quickly, and once signed the form serves as a legally binding sworn statement.
