TPD Prepares for Big Football Weekend

Get ready Tallahassee! We're most likely going to see a record crowd this weekend. A double dose if you will, as FAMU welcomes thousands for its popular homecoming festivities and FSU takes on the demon deacons at Doak Campbell.

Tuesday we asked local law enforcement officers, "Are you ready for some football?" Law enforcement officers in Tallahassee know this is not the time to ask for a day off. Tallahassee police have been planning for this event since football schedules were announced in March.

Lt. Miller says this is the first time in his 27 years he can remember a FAMU homecoming game and an FSU home game on the same weekend. Law enforcement officials are anticipating a crowd of 200 thousand people citywide, probably the largest crowd we'll see all year, but weekend patrol isn't all FAMU PD have to deal with, all day and everyday this week homecoming events are keeping officers on their toes.

"It's and extraordinarily busy time. We do have a significant number of visitors coming to campus independently of the day the football game is played," says John Earnst, FAMU police.

Later this week, Tallahassee police will be releasing a rundown of road closures and other important details. As always, police encourage fans to leave early for the event and practice patience.
