Blueprint 2000

The maps are drawn and the money is almost secured, Blueprint 2000 officials say your penny sales tax will soon create a six-lane gateway to Tallahassee's airport. County and city officials in the capital city ay construction will begin in the summer of 2005. It may seem like a ways off, but officials say the finished product will be worth the wait.

It's almost lunch time, and traffic has come to a hault at the intersection of Capital Circle Northwest and Hartsfield Road. She'd like to see this road widened, a request Blueprint 2000 officials are listening to as they purchase a right of way to expand Capital Circle to six lanes from Highway 90 to I-10.

"When that gets done we'll have access to the airport, plus economic incentive to use airport for freight. That's a great thing," says Jim Davis.

Davis says the ball is already rolling on this project. In fact, the contracting process begins next month. He says when it's all said and done, Capital Circle will act as a major artery from the Southwood area to I-10, something motorists are anxiously awaiting .

Davis says tax monies for Blueprint 2000 won't be collected until December of 2004. The agency is working off a $70 million bond it acquired this year. Davis says the Capital Cascades Greenway is on the list of improvements, but the top priority is widening Capital Circle.
