A Florida State University researcher is one of the first scientists in America to receive funding from the Stimulus Bill.
Dr. Mohamed Kabbaj has been given a $400,000 grant to study chronic depression.
His research will look into the illness at the molecular level, and how it's impacted by the outside environment.
The two-year study could lead to greater understanding of depression and more effective drug treatments.
Dr. Mohamed Kabbaj with the FSU College of Medicine says, "Maybe we can develop some new drugs that may affect those marks and make animals less prone to depression, something like that. So these have great application to human diseases like depression and drug addiction also."
The World Health Organization says clinical depression impacts 340 million people at any one time.

This is a very important subject, and I sincerly hope that FSU, with its outstanding researchers, take the lead and score some ground breaking findings.
Bonne chance a ce brillant Chercheur Dr.Kabbaj en esperant qu'il reussira tres tot ,a defaut de delivrer l'Humanite de ce lourd fardeau, a soulager ces 340 millions d'etres humains. Merci M.Kabbaj, Merci FSU.
What a great way to get the economy back on track and get banks lending again -- wow -- depression research that maybe, maybe will help ANIMALS reduce molecular depression. FSU gets $400K but how much of that will pay for T.K.'s appeal to the NCAA?
