Cameron Ashley thought this was going to be just another day in the first grade, coloring, reading, and getting ready for spring break, but then, a surprise visitor changed everything.
"Hi Cameron," said Latrisha Ashley, a Petty Officer E6, who works in intelligence.
And with that, Cameron's art class became a surprise homecoming with tears of joy.
It's been more than 6 months since Cameron has seen her mother, Latrisha, who's in the Navy.
"I miss her, all the time I think about her. And sometimes I stay up until 2 o'clock in the morning when it's 5 o'clock here, just to hear her voice, to motivate me to continue my day. So she is my motivation," said PO1 Ashley.
Seeing her daughter brought tears to Latrisha's eyes, but looking around the room it was clear the reunion touched everyone.
"I knew she would cry, but I didn't think she would, to the extreme that she did," said PO1 Ashley.
Cameron was hoping her mom would come for Easter, but now she'll have a much better spring break with her mom back in town. "Have her all the time and play with her," said Cameron.
Latrisha has been in Bahrain, working as an intel specialist. And before she took Cameron home, Latrisha gave the class a geography lesson as she showed them where Bahrain is on a map. She also gave students the money that they use in Bahrain.
But the only thing Cameron wanted was to keep hugging her mom.
"That I love her," said Cameron.
Cameron will have her mom home for three weeks. And the two aren't going to be sitting around, Latrisha plans to take her daughter to Disney World this weekend. A chance for the two to bond and spend time together before she has to go back overseas.
