It's all a part of the city's community neighborhood renaissance partnership. Members of Tallahassee's providence community woke up to a special blitz cleanup Thursday morning.

Crews from every city department were combing the neighborhood, which sits off of Lake Bradford Road. Each group had a chore.

“We're adding new lights, some only have lights on every other pole. So we're going to put lights on every pole so they'll have better lighting,” says Fay Hawkins.

The providence neighborhood was chosen because of its declining state from criminal activity to trashy streets, but city spokespersons say in order to be selected the neighborhood must support the cause.

“We could come in and do everything, but if they are not committed and involved, it won't stay that way,” says Brenda Tanner.

Residents say they are committed and encourage other neighborhoods to follow their lead.

“If you live in a neighborhood where there are problems, form a neighborhood association or get with one that is there,” suggests Amon Douglass.
