The St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church started back in 1866.
In 1895, the building moved a block down the street on South Ashley. Today the church still holds stained glass and pews that were put in the original church way back in 1866.
"It feels good to come back to the church and see how it's grown. It's become a big part of the community. We've rebuilt our bell tower inside the church and ring it Sunday, you can hear it all the way down the block, so it feels pretty good," said Valdosta resident Jermaine Mack.
The original plot of land was donated to the church in the 1800s.
