Episcopalians in Tallahassee are banding together following a Bishop's call to escrow all funds for the national church. The news comes the first Sunday following a historic vote to elect a gay bishop in New Hampshire.
While views are split among the church nationwide- parishioners in the sunshine state are staying calm and turning to prayer. Many argue the rift in the church is not about homosexuality, it's about understanding scripture.
Parishioner, Susanne Cusick said,” The issue is really the authority of scripture- it is the word of God- there is some who believe it was written by men.”
Florida's diocese also says the covenant of marriage as written in scripture is between a man and woman, despite the church's blessings for same-sex unions. Florida's five bishops will meet in September to address the matter.
