Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare's Board of Directors opted to support Leon County's proposed health care plan and the half-cent sales tax to support it.
The board felt it would've been better suited to a special election, but with Leon County voters set to decide on November 7, the TMH Board announced it would support the plan, saying it "appreciates the critical need for indigent care."
However, the support comes with the understanding that it will be governed by an oversight committee and funds would "exclusively follow patient encounters."
If voters approve, Leon County's sales tax rate will go up to eight percent, the tax raising about $18 million each year.
The Greater Tallahassee Area Chamber of Commerce also met this week and said it will not support the tax.
