Reality is setting in for Valdosta's newly elected mayor. Just over 80 percent of voters in the Azalea City cast their ballots for John Fretti.
He credits his vision for Valdosta's future for his overwhelming success in Tuesday's election. The mayor-elect says he understands that voters have put their trust in him.
"We've enjoyed the mandate that was given to us and we will hope that they (the voters) will entrust us to that and they've spoken, but I want to continue to hear from them," says Fretti.
Fretti will be sworn into office during the first city council meeting of 2004, which will be on January 8.
In other election news, voters in Decatur County, Georgia approved the county's special purpose local option sales tax. The vote won by over 1,000 votes.
