Water Tests at Wakulla Beach

The Department of Environmental Protection has completed three separate tests on the waters at Wakulla Beach, and the test results look promising.

Wakulla County health officials trudged out in the sludge last week to take a water sample.

The DEP took two more. They bagged it up and sent it to the DEP labs which released the results this afternoon, and while they did find some bacteria, health officials say there's not enough to fear the waters.

Padraic Juarez, Wakulla County Environmental Administrator, said, "This is great news that we got from the water sample that we took. It is far below the standard where we would normally issue an advisory in a designated beach area, so this is really good news."

Test results of the sludge are still not back and Juarez says he'll wait for those before removing warning signs at Wakulla Beach.
