Local colleges and universities in the Big Bend are honored for their display of equal opportunity.
Florida State University, Florida A&M University and Tallahassee Community College are being recognized for hiring those living with disabilities.
Jackie Cunningham, a teacher's assistant with TCC, says the college has welcomed her with open arms.
"Having met friends at the college, surrounding yourself with those people, that network of support is what keeps you focused. That is what keeps you going," said Cunningham.
According to the Florida Department of Education, FSU currently has seven employees living with disabilities, FAMU employs five, and TCC employs three.
The awards given by Florida's Vocational Rehabilitation Program were in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
