It’s a rare sight, an endless stream of students asking for a shot in the arm. FSU health officials say it’s a very different scene than in years past. This outreach program, which consists of taking flu shots to various sites on campus, is gaining popularity.

Freshman Arnie Pantoja says he'll take a needle anytime over being sick again. Sponsored by the Thagard Health Center and the School of Nursing, the flu shots serve another purpose. Nursing students are tapping into some real life experience.

“It’s really helping us with hands on experience and interacting with students than just working on a dummy in the lab,” says Vicki Weyrauch.

And for the record, for those of you who still skeptical, you can’t get the flu from the flu shot.

FSU health workers expect more than 3,000 students, faculty and staff will take advantage of the free flu shots. The university's flu campaign began in October and runs through next week.
