The tax-free holiday for energy efficient appliances starts today.
Customers throughout Florida won't have to pay a sales tax when they buy energy efficient appliances that cost up to $1,500 from now until October 11.
The types of items that qualify for the rebate include washing machines, dishwashers, ceiling fans, fluorescent light bulbs and thermostats. They must meet specific, independent Energy Star ratings from the government.
Stores like The Home Depot and Best Buy will place tags on their energy efficient items to alert customers.
This is the first time the state has had a rebate for energy efficient appliances.
