A biomass energy plant is on the edge of approval in Florida's Capital City. A Georgia based company is hoping the build the 35 megawatt biomass plant near Innovation Park in Tallahassee.
If city commissioners approve the contract Wednesday night, the permitting phase can begin with the plant scheduled to go online by 2010.
The biomass plant would produce enough energy to power up 10,000 homes by burning bio waste like trees to create a fuel similar to natural gas.
The city would not be responsible for the construction costs; the only requirement is that the city purchase the power.
