A Tallahassee school is going the distance in the fight against childhood obesity, and it's having fun doing it!
Hawks Rise Elementary opened its fitness trail on campus Monday. The quarter-mile track tries to encourage a healthy lifestyle among young people and provides a safe place for the Mileage Club joggers to do their thing.
The club is a group of students who run each morning before class.
The trail is sponsored by several community members and is dedicated to third grader Daniel Padgett who died in an ATV accident in 2004.
Padgett jogged on the school fields every morning. Teachers say he never missed a day.
