New Police Chief Named

We’re introducing the new man in charge of the Perry Police Department.

Vern Clark has been named the new police chief after serving as interim since Wayne Putnal retired in July. Clark has been with the Perry Police Department for 24 years and has hit the ground running in this new position.

"We're working with the city manager and the city council on trying to work on a lot of the environmental problems we have in town, junk vehicles, debris, yard trash, abandoned houses. We got a lot of work ahead of us."

Perhaps the more pressing issue to tackle is the seven-year officer shortage. Clark says there are currently three officers in field training, and he hopes to fill two more positions soon.

"I met one of the recruiting officers at the school and he was very friendly and very nice. I'd heard a lot of great things about the department through other law enforcement officers and instructors at the college, so I decided to give it a shot."

Clark says with the support of city administrators, his staff, and the community, he is confident he will lead a top notch police department.

Chief Clark says he is proud of the work done by former chief Putnal. Putnal retired after 37 years with the department.
