More details are emerging about the grisly discovery on the side of a busy southern highway where investigators say two children and two adults were found shot to death.
Someone found the bodies in a grassy area along Florida's Turnpike in Port Saint Lucie. Investigators say the woman was found clutching the boy and girl in such a way as though she were trying to shield them. According to the sheriff, the victims appear to be a Hispanic family.
Although no vehicles were found near the bodies, there are tire tracks leading back to the turnpike, which runs north and south through Florida.
A resident of a nearby development reportedly heard shots or fireworks around 3 a.m., several hours before the bodies were found.
