For thousands in Tallahassee, it was a day of new classes, new faces and new schedules. Tallahassee's three institutions of higher learning started their fall semesters Monday.

Getting to class meant fighting a crowd at Tallahassee Community College. Returning students like Kristen Wilson noticed record enrollment.

''I can tell how many students are here, parking everywhere, overflow everywhere, but for most part sort of an organized calm, '' says Kristin

TCC President Bill Law says the school passed 12,000 students for the first time.

''I'm happy to say we've done an excellent job accommodating that additional growth. For us that's more than 1,000 new students in one semester. So a good challenge, I think students are doing fine though, '' Law says.

At FAMU, a mid-day computer problem shut down registration on campus, extra first-day stress for some new rattlers.

For FSU students, this first day of classes was more important than ever. The university started a new policy students must attend the first day of class or risk losing their spot.

Many local businesses and restaurants are glad to see students back in town. Some restaurants on Tennessee Street have seen sales go up 30 percent.
