Operation Christmas Child Under Way

A group of Rose City seniors are doing their part to make sure these children have a merry Christmas. Millions of needy children across the world may not see presents under a tree on Christmas morning. Theirs will come in a shoebox.

For years, residents at Camellia Gardens of life care have participated in "Operation Christmas Child" packing shoeboxes of goodies to mail to children in poorer countries.

After the boxes are wrapped and mailed, they have an interesting journey ahead of them to get to the children.

"Some of the packages get to the villages by oxcart, some by donkey's back, some by horseback, some by canoe, some by rafts," says Janette Jones.

However they reach their destination, the residents look forward to receiving photos and videotapes of the children's reactions, but residents here say that sadness is mixed with joy and the feeling that they made a difference. Shipping is paid by participants. A $5.00 check per box is appreciated.
