TCC Takes Nursing Program to Chattahoochee

Thursday department heads met at the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee where they plan to implement a teaching site.

A ward clerk at the Florida State Hospital, Katie McComb, was interested in furthering her education in nursing, but the commute to Tallahassee became too much.

McComb was not alone. The hospital's nursing consultant says she received many calls from employees seeking a nursing program, and she found it with Tallahassee Community College.

Thursday TCC heads toured the hospital's campus to determine what technology and courses would be needed, but TCC doesn't plan to stop at the 2,400 hospital employees.

About 60 employees have already expressed interest. TCC will offer prerequisite classes and the nursing program in January.
