Remembering SGT Green

As officers mark a tragic anniversary, SGT Dale Green was shot and killed in the line of duty one year ago Thursday. This memorial marker was unveiled Thursday morning. It's newly etched with the name of SGT Dale Green who was killed while responding to a home invasion robbery one year ago.

The flag once again flies at half staff as the men and women in blue remember the night a robber's bullet cut short the life of SGT Dale Green.

"It doesn't seem like it's been a year already, we were talking about that this morning. It seems like it was two months ago that it happened and it doesn't get any easier.”

Dale Green's widow closed her eyes as officers unveiled the memorial which now bears her husband's name, and the chief urged everyone to use this somber anniversary to instead celebrate Dale's life and re-evaluate their own.

"Ask yourself are you doing what you love most? Dale was. Are you on right terms with your family and friends? Dale was. Are you living a life of service to mankind? Dale did," says Chief McNeil.

Those celebratory sentiments were echoed by green's widow and his mother who was visibly moved by the tribute to her fallen son.

"It blesses me. It blesses me that they thought so much of Dale, and it blesses me that Dale really was totally, totally satisfied in his job. He loved his job and wanted to do a good job," Betty Green says.

At Thursday’s ceremony, Dale Green's family was also presented a flag by Congressman Allen Boyd. That flag was flown in Dale's honor over the U.S. Capitol shortly after his death.

There will be a private dinner and church service Thursday night for family, friends and colleagues.
