FDLE Releases Some Startling Crime Figures

While the number of non-violent crimes continues to drop, more than 500 murders have been committed in the state so far this year. That’s a 27 percent increase over the 408 committed in the first half of last year.

Gov. Jeb Bush pointed to a couple of cities that have had more than their share.

Gov. Jeb Bush said, “Well, we’ve had a big up-tick in murders in both Jacksonville and it’s not quite the same increase in Orlando. The local community is working on it. Crime continues. The good news is for six months the crime rate continues to drop."

Overall, the crime index showed 1,100 fewer crimes reported so far this year than at the same time last year.
