Marks Responds to Allegations

Tallahassee Mayor John Marks will fight accusations of improper campaign fundraising reports.

The mayor was out of town when he received notice Monday that the Florida Elections Commission found probable cause the mayor violated nine counts of Florida elections statutes.

The issue involves errors in financial reports by the marks campaign. Citizen activist Eugene Danaher filed the complaint in January.

Marks told Eyewitness News, "I can say without any question there were no knowing or deliberate violations to state statutes by myself or anyone on my campaign staff and we will respond to the election commission report in the appropriate time."

Marks can request either a formal or informal hearing before the elections commission to answer the charges. He could face a fine if found guilty.
