Tallahassee city commissioners Wednesday night moved toward negotiations with the county over advanced life support.
When a new Leon County run ambulance service starts next year, the county wants to pay city firefighters to provide advanced life support.
That includes any medical treatment that penetrates the skin.
Currently, firefighters can do only basic life support, even though they may sometimes beat an ambulance to an emergency.
City and county negotiators will work out a formal agreement for the city service, including the price.
