The face of Big Bend Crime Stoppers was named the Best Crime Prevention in Florida.
Tallahassee Police cleaned up at the Crime Prevention Association's Awards banquet in Altamonte Springs Thursday night.
The entire Crime Prevention Unit was named Best in State, with Officer Kathy McGhin named top Crime Prevention Practitioner in the state.
"The people that I work with are very passionate about what they do," says Sergeant Audrey Smith. "They care for the community and they're very devoted to trying to make sure that our citizens are safe."
"That's its own reward," says Crime Prevention Practitioner of the Year, Kathy McGhin. "To go someplace to do a program and then later have somebody stop you in the mall or at another program and say, ‘hey, I really learned something from you’."
Tallahassee Police beat out Jacksonville and West Palm Beach for the top spots. The Tallahassee Kiwanis Club was even named Community Service Agency of the Year in Florida.
