Tallahassee Police are still searching for a man they say pushed a woman into traffic while trying to steal her purse.
Officers say the woman and a friend were walking along Tennessee Street when the suspect came up from behind them and pushed the man away and then went for the woman's purse. She apparently fought back, but was pushed into the road and struck by an oncoming pickup truck. She was listed in serious condition Wednesday night and is expected to recover from her injuries.
LT Brian Donaldson with the Tallahassee Police Department said, "We know the victim is a homeless individual. It's possible the suspect is homeless. Obviously at this time, since the Shelter is nearby, they're around this area, so it may have been a crime of opportunity."
Her purse and the suspect's shoe was recovered shortly after. An air and K-9 search did not locate the suspect.
He's described as a black man in his 20s, about 5'8” tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a white tank top and blue basketball shorts.
The attack happened in a high traffic area. Police are asking anyone who saw what happened to call Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
