Employees at Doctors' Memorial Hospital in Perry have been working the past couple of months on a ten percent pay cut.

Now, the cut is being cut.

Half of the salary reductions are being restored.

Two months ago employees at Doctors' Memorial Hospital in Perry were hit with a ten percent pay cut.

Perry resident Alton Collier said, "I think that was a little bit much.
I think they should retract majority of that."

DMH administrators have retracted half of that.

So now, salary reductions are at five percent.

This cutback on the cuts affects 163 hospital employees.

Perry resident Ken Hale said, "We need good employees out there.
I'm proud that they've dedicated to stay as long as they have in that situation.
We need dedicated employees."

In March, hospital administrators reported that the facility was losing $130,000 a month.

The ten percent pay cut was expected to save $50,000 a month.

The hospital still had to ask the Taylor County Commission for help in the form of two million dollars; which makes residents like Dorothy Swain a little nervous.

Swain said, "We didn't know about the problems that were here.
So we really do need the hospital.
The old people need it because if they have an emergency, they need to get somewhere right away, not go clean to Tallahassee."

DMH officials say they are working on the financial problems,
but feel giving back half of the original pay cut is a good start.
DMH board members say the main thing that's allowing them to reduce the pay cut from ten to five percent, is that the county commission is paying off the hospital's FDA loan, which officials say will free up $10,000 a month.

The board chairman says they are also working on small cost-saving measures that they're not ready to release, yet.

I think that, based on these few posts, Perry needs to spend more money on schools.

Well for one thing if people wouldnt use the hospital to get their pain pills maybe we wouldnt have to pay upfront. We need this hospital here.If its a REAL emergency they will see you if you dont have insurance or any money upfront. Also there would be tremendous job losses.
