Some area first graders are receiving a helping hand with reading skills thanks to additional funds.
Perry Primary received a check for $4200. The school was awarded the "FRED" Grant, which stands for Foundation for Rural Education and Development.
School officials say this will enhance the reading of struggling first graders through the purchase of reading resource computer software.
"By using this software in conjunction with manipulatives and other materials that we have available for the teachers, we hope that these students are going to progress at the level that they'll be thrilled with and also their parents."
Perry Primary was one of eight winners selected from more than sixty nationwide applications.
