Florida's new governor, Charlie Crist, held a celebratory news conference this morning in Tampa. He was met with applause as he entered the room.
Crist served under Gov. Jeb Bush as attorney general. He told reporters that today the transition begins. He says this morning he spoke to the members of his cabinet and hopes there will be a bipartisan effort to unite all citizens of Florida.
Said Crist, "I just want to thank the people of Florida. I'm more grateful than you'll ever know. I'll not let you down."
Crist defeated Tampa Congressman Jim Davis by a single-digit margin.
Davis called Crist at 11 last night to concede.
