The 51st annual Coon Bottom Pilau got underway Thursday in Concord.
Organizers say they were up early in the morning, setting up tables and warming up the pots.
Close to 5,000 people, some from as far as Texas and Louisiana came out for a helping of chicken, rice and coleslaw.
The event helps to raise funds for the Concord Cemetery.
Organizers say the event usually ends when the rice is all gone.
