Residents gathered for a Town Hall meeting at the Jack McLean, Jr. Community Center to discuss the pros and cons of the FCAT.
A panel of community leaders spoke about the inconsistencies of standardized testing and the impact it's having of Leon County students.
"The basic position is that the FCAT should not be eliminated, but it should be examined to see whether or not it's being used in a reliable and valid fashion to assess whether or not students perform well in Leon public schools," said Dr. Merlin Langley, an associate professor at Florida A&M University.
The panel also discussed the No Child Left Behind Act and the A+ Accountability Plan. Students in the FAMU Department of Social Work organized the event.
